« The Culinary Olympics: heat in the kitchens | Main | You notice you've been too busy working... »

October 31, 2004

Ah haa, I've just found what it was! Australia won the gold medal in the 2004 Pastry Olympics, in Erfurt Germany last week. The USA were second and Germany third.
I know I read the information in the free commuter newspaper on the train (very dubious quality), but I felt even their sensationalist journalism surely wouldn't stoop to fabricating news....(ha ha!!) :-)

hubert schmieder

i do feel for you if it is the first time you went to a Culinary Olympics, well you did very well your observations are very good, for an apprentice!! as an oldtimer like me {been to all since 1951,missed berlinin 96} it is also very complex and sometimes cunfussing what all goes on hotdishes displayed cold, showpieces, noneatbles ,patrys, fingerfoods an on and one but if you come the nexst time i advise you to read the rules and regulations, the are also confusing.the thing that will stand out is our national teams cookes a german main course meal and wins Gold.. noting wrongwith the meal but deersaddle wraped in bacon, braised redcabbage, and a stuffed dumpling, and chantrels mushrooms?that is the kind of menu you could find in erfurt in more then one restaurant,in fall after hunting season starts. I whas a usa teammember in 1964 ,and i have no idea why we could not have found something that represented the bounty of our land..keep up the good work and if i can ever be of any help call me.
